The very best chocolate chip cookies

When we were sent home during COVID in 2020, Brendan & I  each came up with a list of “goals” that we wanted to complete with our time at home. My list had things like “go for daily walks” and “practice YouTube Yoga” (which I still practice yoga daily as a result!). Brendan’s list had one goal, “find the world’s best chocolate chip cookie recipe.” Since we weren’t sure how long we’d be at home, Brendan did not waste any time! He made eight different recipes (in a week!), and the one he found truly is the best, thanks to “House of Yum”. He swears the “secret” is the amount of brown sugar compared to other recipes!

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup butter softened (he leaves ours out in the windowsill for a couple hours on the day he’s making the batter)

  • ¾ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1 ¾ cups flour

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp baking powder

  • ¾ cup chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. In a standing mixer, cream butter + sugar + brown sugar

  2. Add egg + vanilla to this creamed mixture

  3. Add flour, baking powder, + salt

  4. Mix in chocolate chips

  5. Gentle form into (insert number of cookies)  cookies. IMPORTANT: Do not form firm dough balls, loosely drop batter on cookie sheet

  6. Bake for 15 min @ 375 degrees
